How It All Began
In January 2025, everything changed for our founders, Ashley and Jordan, and their young family. Ashley’s mother, Rebecca, was diagnosed with cancer and underwent emergency surgery to have a stoma fitted in February. Just one day before Rebecca’s hospital admission, Ashley’s father, Christian, also faced a sudden medical emergency and was rushed to hospital. Thankfully, both parents were discharged after a few days, but their recovery brought new challenges — neither could manage daily household tasks, especially cooking.
While professional carers were available to help with personal care, emergency care guidelines prevented them from preparing or cooking meals. With Ashley managing their own ongoing medical needs and parenting a lively one-year-old, visiting daily to cook simply wasn’t feasible. We explored local options in the Teignbridge area, but takeaways and supermarket ready meals weren’t healthy, affordable, or tailored to their specific dietary needs — especially during a cost-of-living crisis.
That’s when Ashley and Jordan made a practical decision: to batch cook and freeze meals that could be reheated easily. This simple act of care quickly became a lifeline — and the spark that ignited AJ’s Home Cooking.
As the weeks went on, it became clear that this wasn’t just a solution for their own family. Many people — whether juggling work, parenting, caring responsibilities, or health challenges — face the same daily question: what’s for dinner? And too often, the answer is whatever’s quickest, not necessarily what’s best.
AJ’s Home Cooking was born from lived experience, empathy, and a desire to help others. We’re a frozen ready meal delivery service committed to putting thought, care, and quality ingredients into every dish. Whether you’re supporting a loved one, managing a busy household, or simply need a break from cooking, we’re here to make mealtimes easier — and a little more comforting.
